Tachikawa / Hachioji / Takao area

There are many large commercial facilities, office buildings, and restaurants around Tachikawa Station in the Tachikawa area. The Showa Kinen Park is a short walk from the central part of the area to enjoy a flower garden, Japanese garden, barbecue, and bicycle rentals. The Hachioji area is dotted with mountains for hikers, green parks, and museums. Especially Mt. Takao, which is about 50 minutes by train from Shinjuku, is a very popular spot where adults and children can enjoy nature. There are many climbing trails leading up to the 599-meter summit. A cable car or a lift is available to take halfway up the mountain.
