The Ryogoku area located along the Sumida River is known as a sumo town. Grand sumo tournaments are held three times a year at Ryogoku Kokugikan characterized by its large copper shingled roof. There are many sumo stables in this area, so you may be able to catch sight of sumo wrestlers. Don’t miss the statues of sumo wrestlers in various poses and the handprints of successive Yokozuna (grand champion sumo wrestlers) on both sides of Kokugikan-dori St. from Ryogoku Station. In the adjacent Kinshicho area, there are many large commercial facilities around Kinshicho Station. The redevelopment of the area has brought new life.
