Katsushika / Shibamata Katsushika / Shibamata

Katsushika City is made up of 30 towns. The Shibamata area of the city has the atmosphere of an old town. The area is also famous as the setting for the classic Japanese movie series Otoko wa Tsuraiyo (It’s Tough Being a Man) and is still visited by many tourists. Taishakuten-Sando, which is about 200 meters long and runs from Shibamata Station on the Keisei Line to Taishakuten Daikyoji Temple, is lined with traditional shops selling Shibamata’s specialties, such as kusa-dango dumplings and rice crackers. It is also fun to stroll around. As a typical landscape representative of Japan, this streetscape was selected as the first national important cultural landscape in Tokyo.
